Serhii Tsiupko is additionally known for his charitable and philanthropic projects.
Sergiy Tsyupko has proven himself as a person who has created his own unique world and has already firmly entered the history of Ukraine during his decades of charitable activity. This world is multifaceted and filled with the energy of its creator, directed both at grand state-scale projects and at helping ordinary people who have suffered from the current war with Russia.
Sergiy Tsyupko’s first significant project was the creation of the first private Museum of Modern Art of Ukraine in 2005. Since the 90s of the last century, his collection has been steadily growing, as a result of which there is a unique project today in Ukraine that reflects the entire palette of creativity of our painters, sculptors, graphic artists, as well as work in the field of decorative and applied art. More than 6,000 exhibits have entered the history of Ukrainian art, taking over the baton of collections of great Ukrainians of the late 19th and early 20th centuries from the families of Tereshchenko, Khanenko, Simyrenko and other patrons of our country. Just like these patriots of Ukraine, Sergiy Tsyupko not only bought art objects for his collection, but also supported modern artists, organising plein-air and field sessions in the most beautiful places of our country, thus discovering new talents.
Thematic exhibitions are held in the Museum, there is a special program of free delivery of children from rural schools to view them, and future generations of Ukrainians will have the opportunity to see the history of their m otherland depicted in the wonderful works of art featured in the collection of the First Private Museum in Ukraine.
The philanthropic activity of Sergiy Tsyupko is not limited to this large project of the Private Museum. There are other, no less important directions to his multifaceted activity. In 1840, Yevhen Hrebinka financed the first edition of Taras Shevchenko’s “Kobzar”. During those times, the “Kobzar” was republished dozens of times, both at the state level and by various foundations and private individuals. But for the first time in the world, the idea of combining the entire artistic heritage of the great Ukrainian artist with his brilliant poems was realized. This is how the elegant, collector’s edition of “Kobzar” appeared, which highlights the genius of Taras Shevchenko in all its greatness.
Sergiy Tsyupko’s charitable activity in the publishing business was continued in cooperation with a statesman and patriot of Ukraine, Danylo Kulinyak.
Sergiy ‘s small hometown – the village of Vedmezhe, which has a thousand-year history, now has its own chronicle, presented in a beautiful book with numerous illustrations. Together with the renovation of the school in his native village where children can now study in proper conditions this is a worthy gift from the patron.
A further charity project was the foundation of the first Ukrainian private theater BRAVO, where Tsyupko became the sole and main sponsor. For this purpose, a building with an area of more than a thousand square meters was purchased, completely rebuilt to meet the needs of the theater and donated to the founders of this institution.
It’s worth mentioning the huge victory of Ukrainian athletes in water sports, where our team won the European and World Championships in the class of motor boats corresponding to Formula 1. Sergiy was the main patron of this project, which brought glory to Ukrainian sports at the highest international level.
A separate, and perhaps the most significant section in the charitable world of Sergiy Tsyupko is the project Ukrainian Jerusalem. By the creation of the Private Museum he continued traditions laid down by the families of Ukrainian merchants Tereshchenko and Khanenko, and in this action Sergiy followed in the footsteps of the great patriot of Ukraine Hetman Mazepa, who donated highly artistic items of church utensils to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem. Tsyupko became the second person after Hetman in Ukraine who made a significant philanthropic donation to the Temples in the Holy Land. From now on, wonderful products, created on Kyiv Jewelry Factory by a large team of talented craftsmen and experts, will serve all the people who visit the Holy places for centuries. There are lampions in the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem , as well as the lampions in the Church of the Virgin Mary’s Sepulcher. In the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, these lampions are located above the Stone of the Unction and in Kuvuklia (the place of descent of the Merciful Fire). But the main Gift is the set of the Holy Communion with its main object, the Chalice. This unique work of Ukrainian jewelers is currently being used in all twelve services of the main church holidays of the Orthodox Church. These objects, made of precious metals and stones, are already filled with great spiritual energy emanating from the places where Christ was born, died and resurrected. And we will remember that these items were created in Ukraine, and they are our contribution to the spiritual Transformation of people on earth.
War has come to Ukraine. The Russian occupiers bring great grief to the civil population of our country. The Sergiy Tsyupko’s Charitable Foundation was created in the summer of 2022, the main task of which is to provide assistance to internally displaced persons, Ukrainians who lost their homes and properties, front-line soldiers’ families, and other vulnerable parts of the population.
This article briefly lists the multifaceted activities of the philanthropist Sergiy Tsyupko. Life moves forward and charitable activities develop according to new and very serious challenges to our country. During our existential war with Russia the tasks of charitable activities will change. It will be as worthy as in past peaceful times.
